Women and Minorities Value, Perceive, and Experience Professionalism Differently than Their Peers

An article published today in JAMA Network Open, co-authored by CHEA’s founder and Executive Director, Dr. Jaya Aysola, suggests that health care institutions must reconsider how they evaluate and define professionalism standards to successfully shift the culture of academic medicine. Shifting towards an actively anti-racist and inclusive workplace may improve the retention of minorities and women. Considering diverse perspectives in adjusting professionalism standards in academic medicine may increase inclusivity in the culture of professionalism.
